A virus received on your personal computer can cause loss of information and aggravation in attempting to restore files. We recommend using an up to date anti-virus software installed on your computer.

Many anti-virus software have features that will enable you to automatically update the latest file profiles.

Installation of Personal Firewalls

When using a high speed internet connection, we suggest installation of a firewall on your personal computer. This will provide added security to unauthorized individuals obtaining access to your confidential information and files.

Protection of Passwords

Your password allows added security to your information. We recommend to avoid creating a password that is relevant to your personal information, (for example: date of birth, name, etc…). Even though this is a simple way of remembering your password, it is also more likely to be uncovered by an unauthorized party.

To provide security to confidential information where a password is required we suggest the following:

Do not provide your password to anyone;
Do not save your password on your personal computer;
Do not enable features that allow automatic access to online services;
Do not use the same password that is used for your computer at work;
Do not write your password down;
We suggest your password be changed at least once a month to avoid unauthorized entries;
If and when your password has been discovered, change it immediately and contact all necessary parties;
Unless the source is recognized, do not download free software to your personal computer;
When accessing information on the internet from your personal computer, do not leave your workstation unattended unless you closed the session that you were in;
Regular back up of your important files is recommended; and
When in receipt of a e-mail with a file attached, before opening review that you know the trusted source sending the file.
